It’s not as easy as it looks turning an area of lawn into a successful garden. The tough and tenacious nature of grass is the main reason why. Listen in as I explain what I told a friend who asked for advice about turning a chunk of her lawn into a vegetable garden and raspberry patch. The key to good results is being patient about the process of taming the soil. Unless you use herbicides, it can take way longer than you expect to kill grass using cultivation alone. The danger is that the grass looks dead, but isn’t. This issue is even more crucial when it comes to establishing a perennial crop such as raspberries. The raspberry canes you see in the audio window are from my garden and follow the mulching methods you’ll hear me explain.
