RAISED PANELS, HAND-PLANED: Make Solid Wood Panels Without a Router

Featured Video

Woodworking machines are great, but there’s more of a place for hand tools than many home woodworkers realize. Click above to watch how I refine the angled edge (called the “bevel”) for some raised door panels using a sharp hand plane. The results are better than with a router because you can get a wider and more authentic bevel shape. You also don’t have to buy fancy tools and find a place to store them in your workshop. Besides, woodworking without a lot of noise and dust is always a treat when you can get it. This video is part of my online video course on designing and building kitchen cabinets.
